Fathers Matter! The 26th Annual International Fatherhood Conference, June 4-6, Washington, DC

Nationwide — The National Partnership for Community Leadership and conference sponsors Maximus Corporation, the National Institute for Children’s Healthy Quality, and Powerhouse Ministries are pleased to announce the convening of the 26th Annual International Fatherhood Conference in Washington, DC from June 4-6, 2024. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Fearlessly,” The International Fatherhood Conference has been an annual gathering of parents, practitioners, grantmakers, researchers, and policymakers since 1998.

The conference aims to discuss and share ideas on the essential role of fathers in families to reduce child poverty. This year’s conference theme, “Moving Forward Fearlessly,” is rooted in the understanding and urgency for all of us to work together to reduce significant fatherhood absence, improve birth outcomes and decrease maternal morbidity, promote healthy relationships among parents and within families, and to do all we can to create bright futures for our children.

The Children’s Defense Fund reports that among the 74 million children living in the United States, 11 million live in poverty. One in six children under five (3 million children) were poor, the highest rate of any age group. The pandemic forced children already in poverty even deeper into poverty. Children from those homes — who are more likely to be in poverty because they live in a single-parent household with just one income — are more likely to involve themselves in crime, alcohol, and drug use, and drop out of school, among other issues.

Further, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, the percentages of children living in poverty were highest for Black and American Indian/Alaska Native children (34 percent each), followed by Hispanic children (28 percent), Pacific Islander children (23 percent), and children of Two or more races (19 percent), and were lowest for White and Asian children (11 percent).

In addressing the concerns above, this year’s conference promises to provide solutions with more than 40 speakers and workshop presenters. It will begin on June 4th with a free, open-to-the-public Community Day featuring a plenary session and parenting workshops. An inspirational Opening Reception will also honor Favorite Fathers for 2024 nationwide. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities and the celebration of individuals advancing fatherhood work at the annual Spirit of Fatherhood Hall of Fame Luncheon. Your participation in this conference is crucial to its success.
