Black Twin Sisters From Florida Named Both Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Nationwide — Llayna and Saniah Maul, twin sisters from Tallahassee, Florida, are not just close sisters; they’re also academic achievers. The pair is set to graduate as Valedictorian and Salutatorian at Godby High School.

According to the twins, being at the top of their class has been a result of their hard work and respect for education and their supportive teachers.

“They’re dedicating their lives to be able to teach you,” Llayna, who is the Valedictorian, told WTXL. “It’s worthwhile to just focus and pay attention and really put forth that effort to make them proud.”

“I don’t work for the A or the high GPA, I work just so I can be the best I can be,” said Saniah, who is the Salutatorian.

Aside from their academic achievements, the Maul twins have been involved in theater at Godby, even performing “Shrek the Musical” at the state level. They’ve also taken college-level courses at Tallahassee Community College to prepare themselves before heading to college.

Their mom, Annie Leonard, is thrilled with her daughters’ success. Leonard, who herself attended Godby and has two sons who graduated from there, instilled a strong work ethic in her children from a young age, ensuring they had the opportunities she wished for herself.

She also credits their achievement to a strong support system, from teachers and parents to the community and each other.

“My daughters are wonderful but they’re doing what anybody can do with support,” said Leonard.
