“We Have to Show That at This Age?”

Nationwide — Snoop Dogg shared that his grandson’s questions about a same-sex couple in Pixar’s Lightyear left him speechless. The rapper said he struggled to explain how two women could have a child, leading him to question why kids’ movies include such themes.

During an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, the 53-year-old shared the story while discussing family and parenting. He said while watching the 2022 film with his grandson, the boy asked how the character Alisha Hawthorne had a child with her wife.

“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman,’” he recalled. The rap legend admitted he didn’t know what to say and simply told the child to eat his popcorn, according to Complex.com.

The rap icon, who has seven grandchildren, said the question caught him off guard. “I didn’t come here for this s—. I just came to watch the go—– movie,” he said. He added that children naturally ask questions, but he felt unprepared to respond.

The rapper went on to say the scene made him hesitant to watch family films in theaters. “It threw me for a loop. We have to show that at this age?” he asked.

The Lightyear spinoff drew controversy when Pixar restored a same-sex kiss between Hawthorne and her wife after employees accused Disney of censoring LGBTQ representation. The film was banned in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, and faced criticism from conservative groups.

Actor Chris Evans, who voiced Buzz Lightyear, defended the scene at the time. He called critics “idiots” and said social progress always faces resistance, but society should continue to embrace growth and representation.
