The first teams participating in the inaugural TGL are almost complete, as the new entity has announced the fifth team that will play in the new league.
TGL, the new innovative tech-inspired golf league started by Tiger Woods’ TMRW Sports and the PGA Tour, announced that the latest team will play in San Francisco. Marc Lasry’s Avenue Sports Fund and Stephen Curry lead the latest ownership group. The Golden State Warriors players included his teammates Klay Thompson and the newly retired Andre Iguodala.
“Avenue is thrilled to be working with Stephen Curry, in partnership with TMRW Sports, as a founding TGL team,” Lasry said in a written statement. “Our ownership group is excited to become stewards of TGL San Francisco and to represent Northern California, which is the center of tech innovation and is a perfect location for a TGL team in this extraordinary new sports league.”
This news comes after the announcement that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers, Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex, have joined Venus and Serena Williams, along with Serena’s two children, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. and Adira, and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, as investors in The Los Angeles Golf Club.
The league will have another club (for a total of six) join the aforementioned teams, along with Atlanta Drive GC, TGL Boston, and TGL New York. Boston, New York, and San Francisco have yet to announce the names of their respective teams.
The new league is slated to begin its first season on Tuesday, Jan. 9, on ESPN and ESPN+.
