Spirit Airlines Reimburses Family For Placing Boy On Wrong Flight

Spirit Airlines Apologizes after placing a 6-year-old boy on the wrong flight from Philadelphia to Fort Myers, Florida over the holidays.

Spirit Airlines tries to make amends with the family of an unaccompanied minor who was placed on the wrong flight during the holidays. The child, a 6-year-old boy named Casper, was flying out of Philadelphia to Fort Myers, Florida when he was accidentally put on a plane to Orlando.

The young boy’s grandmother, Maria Ramos, was expecting to pick him up from the Southwest Florida International Airport to celebrate Christmas with him but was shocked to receive a call from her grandson stating that he was in an entirely different city in the state. Fort Myers is nearly 3 hours south of Orlando.

According to WINK, Ramos still wants answers regarding how the mishap occurred. She revealed that although Spirit has offered a full reimbursement for the botched flying experience, an explanation is what she cares to have most.

“I want them to call me. Let me know how my grandson ended up in Orlando,” explained Ramos to the news outlet.

“How did that happen? Did they get him off the plane? The flight attendant – after mom handed him with paperwork – did she let him go by himself? He jumped in the wrong plane by himself?”

Spirit Airlines has released a statement apologizing for the ordeal, detailing how they took “immediate steps” to rectify the situation and ensure Casper would be transported to his grandmother as soon as they discovered the misstep.

“On Dec. 21, an unaccompanied child traveling from Philadelphia (PHL) to Fort Myers (RSW) was incorrectly boarded on a flight to Orlando (MCO),” shared the airliner.

“The child was always under the care and supervision of a Spirit Team Member, and as soon as we discovered the error, we took immediate steps to communicate with the family and reconnect them. We take the safety and responsibility of transporting all of our Guests seriously and are conducting an internal investigation. We apologize to the family for this experience.”
