Now in theaters, the film “Opus” is a film about a group of entertainment journalists eager to be an exclusive audience for Moretti, a pop legend portrayed by John Malkovich, who has not released new music in over 30 years. The group is taken to a desert resort where they are salivating over spending a few days in the lap of luxury. Days of great wine and sumptuous meals divert attention from some peculiar incidents. “It’s a film about these people that we idolize and how, for a lot of people, that idolization has become their identity,” said “Opus” writer, director and former journalist Mark Anthony Green in an interview with Essence.
One young journalist in the group, Ariel, played by Ayo Edebiri, is there with one of her editors. Ariel immediately senses weirdness. It’s not long before some reporters start to disappear. As a journalist in the film, Edebiri’s character is constantly taking notes. “Through Mark Anthony and talking with some of my friends from school who went into journalism, I learned a few things, said Edebiri, the Emmy award-winning actress from “The Bear” on Hulu.Any film that opens with “Maggot Brain” by Funkadelic will be interesting, which is what “Opus” delivers. Kudos to director Green for a thoughtful and surprising ending. “Opus” is now in theaters. Take a look at the film trailer.
