Investigations into Founder of Black-Owned Beauty Supply Institute Finally Concluded

Nationwide — Investigations conducted by attorney general offices in multiple states regarding Beauty Supply Institute, a company founded by African American Atlanta-based businessman Devin Robinson, have now concluded.
The inquiries followed media coverage in 2024 involving complaints from almost a dozen individuals who had contracted services through the company. The coverage prompted reviews by six state attorney general offices.
The final review, conducted by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, concluded in March 2026, bringing all attorney general inquiries to an end.

As part of these reviews, officials examined financial records, service agreements, marketing material, and client communications with no finding of any further action needed. All of the inquiries were handled through administrative review processes conducted by the attorney general’s office. Four closed with no action.

In Georgia, the matter was resolved through an administrative Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC). In Maryland, a cease-and-desist order on one of their services was issued through the state’s Office of Administrative Hearings.
Beauty Supply Institute was founded in 2009 and provided services to entrepreneurs seeking to open retail beauty supply stores. During its sixteen years in operation, the company assisted in establishing 228 retail locations across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, trained over 3,000 students, and assisted in procuring over $5M in funding.

Robinson stated, “My company cooperated fully with each state inquiry… All requests from the attorney general’s offices were reasonable. We fully complied with every request and respected the conclusions reached by each office.”
With the conclusion of all investigations, Beauty Supply Institute has discontinued its operations.

No further statements are planned.
