Defenders’ defense shines in 24-6 victory against Renegades

The DC Defenders cruised to their sixth straight win of the season, defeating the Dallas Renegades on Saturday at Audi Field. The Defenders dominated with a powerful first-half performance and relentless defensive pressure.

“We trusted our system, trusted [offensive coordinator Fred Kaiss] call, and our offensive line, our running backs, and our receivers, we’re all on the same page,” said quarterback Jordan Ta’amu. “We communicated well and just went out there. We wanted to start fast and finish faster and that’s what we did.”

Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu threw three first-half touchdown passes, finding wide receivers Erik Ezukanma, Cornell Powell, and tight end Mason Fairchild to build a 21-0 lead. They later extended the lead 24-0 with a 56-yard field goal from kicker Matt McCrane.

DC’s defense controlled the pace of the game, forcing key stops, including a red-zone interception by cornerback Deandre Baker, while repeatedly shutting down Dallas’ drives. A successful fake punt kept the momentum on DC’s side, and penalties by the Renegades helped seal the outcome of what became yet another Defenders’ victory.

“The [Dallas] Renegades have such an explosive offense, and for our guys to do what they did from a defensive standpoint, to hold them to only six points, that was huge,” said Defenders’ head coach Shannon Harris, “but we gotta regroup and continue to make that message be known to our players that we will give everyone our best shot. We can’t be laxed, we gotta keep our composure, and we have to do it the DC [Defenders] Championship way.”

The DC Defenders will be back home at Audi Field for their Week 7 matchup against the Louisville Kings on Saturday, May 9. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
