Daniel Cameron’s lost by a 5-point margin.
Kentucky Republican attorney general Daniel Cameron conceded after losing his race for governor to incumbent Democratic governor Andy Beshear.
In an almost five-minute speech, with his tearful wife, Makenze, by his side, Cameron expressed how thankful he was to those who had supported him during his campaign, saying it was all about Kentucky’s future.
Thank you all so much for your willingness and commitment to this campaign and this effort,” Cameron said. “An effort that was ultimately about our kids and our grandkids.”
The controversial attorney general, who had all eyes on him during the Breonna Taylor case, asked the crowd to continue to pray for Governor Beshear as he enters his second term. “I want all of us to think about what these next few decades will look and I ask that you pray for Governor Beshear and his team,” Cameron said. “And for all of our commonwealth, because at the end of the day, win, lose or draw, what ultimately matters is that he knows that Christ is on the throne.”
Social media seemed to be on Beshear’s side and basking in Cameron’s defeat. Social justice commentator Roland Martin celebrated on social media.
“Down goes @DanielCameronAG. DOWN GOES CAMERON! The Black Republican who didn’t do a damn thing for Breonna Taylor loses to Democrat @andybeshearky @govandybeshear!”
Another user, @HannahDrake628, said Cameron’s loss was due to his handling of Breonna Taylor’s killing.
“Daniel Cameron, you decided that the back of a murdered Black woman would be your stepping stone,” she wrote. “You chose to step on the grave of #BreonnaTaylor to advance your career. You made a deal with the devil, and you lost. May the spirit of Breonna haunt you all of your days.”
Social media users aren’t the only ones who believe Cameron sold out. Presidential candidate and former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, said that the failed candidate made a “huge mistake” associating himself with Donald Trump and accepting his endorsement, which he proudly expressed in a campaign.

“Daniel Cameron made a huge mistake by embracing Donald Trump and selling his soul to him. And that’s what he did,” Christie said on CNN, according to The Hill. “And the voters of Kentucky, a very red state, as you noted, gave their verdict on politicians who sell their soul to Donald Trump.”
