The Washington Commanders made another thrilling move this offseason, signing four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs on Wednesday during the second week of training camp.
Diggs is expected to sign a one-year contract that is worth up to $12 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move gives Washington another dynamic receiving threat to play alongside star wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
The star wide receiver and Maryland native took to social media to celebrate his homecoming, while also visiting the University of Maryland in College Park, his alma mater.
“Stefon Diggs here. I’m here at the first practice, the first fall practice. [The Terps] out here getting it in man,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Shout out to my Terps and go Commanders. Let’s go.”

As one of the NFL’s most accomplished pass-catchers over the past decade, the Maryland native brings elite route-running ability, veteran leadership, and a consistent track record of on-field production. Diggs’ arrival provides third-year quarterback Jayden Daniels with another reliable target as the Commanders continue building their offense around one of the league’s most promising young quarterbacks.
Washington entered training camp with uncertainty surrounding its No. 2 wide receiver position. Although rookie Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, Jaylin Lane, among others, have shown glimpses of promise so far in training camp, none have firmly established themselves as a clear complement to McLaurin.
The Commanders had also been linked to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk throughout the offseason, but ultimately put the rumours to rest by bringing the Maryland native back to the DMV.
With Diggs in Washington, the Commanders have one of the top wide receiver corps in the NFC headed into this upcoming NFL season. After finishing 5-12 last season, the team is signaling as a strong contender, while surrounding Daniels with proven talent.
“I’m really happy with what we’ve done in the offseason, throughout the offseason. Our staff did a great job working together and identifying guys that would help us both offensively and defensively,” said Commanders General Manager Adam Peters, “but just like with any other room, any other place, if we have ways to get better, we’re always going to look into that and really assess…if it’s the right move for our team or not. And if we do think it is, then we’re not afraid to do that.”
