Nationwide — Mike Epps is making headlines again — this time for saying he’s “glad” there’s been a pause on food stamps, a comment he doubled down on during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club. The 54-year-old comedian argued that government assistance programs, while intended to help, may actually be harming some of the people who rely on them the most.
“I told people when these food stamps and stuff get cut off, ‘Don’t worry about that,’” Epps said around the 41-minute mark of the interview. “Black people, we’ve been getting our shit cut off. We’ve been getting our doors kicked in and stuff. This is not for us.”
Complex reports that he went further, saying that he’s “actually glad” some people are being removed from SNAP benefits because of what he sees as a dangerous pattern: “You get the food stamps, then you go buy the food that gives you cancer, then you eat the food that gives you cancer… then your diet’s messed up. Your diet done sent a lot of n***as to prison.”
Charlamagne Tha God joked that Epps’ comments could land him on Fox News and have people calling him “MAGA Mike,” but Epps laughed it off. “They can’t say that about me. See, that’s one thing about me and Boosie Badazz — we can’t be canceled,” he replied. As Charlamagne warned of the inevitable backlash, Epps fired back with more heat: “Fuck the internet! And everybody out there that think they wanna be mad and say something: fuck you, man.”
Epps’ bold remarks add to a history of moments where he’s sparked controversy or pushed boundaries. His latest comments come as the federal government officially reinstates Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits following the end of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. On Wednesday (November 12), President Trump signed a bill funding the program through September 2026, restoring aid for roughly 42 million Americans. According to CBS News, states were instructed to resume benefits “within 24 hours,” though exact timing varies.
