Brent Metz shot the teenager in the face after the teen and a friend went to scout a house to take pictures while leaving a note for the owner
A 17-year-old teenager was allegedly shot in the face by a Colorado man after he and a friend were at a house looking for a place to take homecoming photos.
A statement released by the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office stated that Brent Metz shot the unidentified teenager after he arrived at the home and pulled up next to the car that the boys were in and fired a shot through the windshield of the car that the two boys were in. Police officers arrested the 38-year-old man and charged him with first-degree assault, two counts of felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and two charges of reckless endangerment for his action.
When police got to the scene, they stated they saw the shooting victim bleeding from his face as the friend was applying pressure to the wound using his t-shirt. Metz was standing with the two boys as they explained to the officers that Metz shot one of them in the face.
The boys informed officers that they were at the home scouting the place so they could take homecoming pictures at the home. They arrived at the house, parked at the gate, and jumped over the fence to speak to the homeowner. When they realized no one was at the door, they walked around the house to see if anyone was around. When they saw that no one was there, they returned to their vehicle to write a note to see if they could get permission to take photos there. This is when Metz arrived at the place, came out of his truck, and fired a shot through the windshield, hitting the victim in the face.
Police officers discovered the gun used inside Metz’s truck.
9 News reported that the homeowner notified police and called her boyfriend, who isn’t Metz to let them know that the teenagers were at the property. When Metz did arrive, he blocked the boys from leaving the property before shooting the victim.
Police wondered why the homeowner would assume that the boys were doing something wrong. Jacki Kelley, JCSO public information officer, said, “It doesn’t make really good sense to us that what they did would constitute the reaction from the homeowner,” Kelley said. “But it’s still an ongoing investigation.”
Kelley did state that there was proof that the boys were just writing a note to leave for the homeowner.
“We know that that was the intention because we have the evidence,” Kelley said. “There is nothing that appears to be malicious or criminal.”
