Bryant Gumbel, 77, Hospitalized After Medical Emergency at NYC Home

Nationwide — TV host and sportscaster Bryant Gumbel was rushed to a New York City hospital after a medical emergency at his Manhattan apartment Monday night. The 77-year-old remains under treatment as his condition is being monitored.

Paramedics arrived at Gumbel’s building just after 9 p.m. and took him out on a gurney before transporting him to a nearby hospital, according to TMZ. He was still receiving treatment as of Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the emergency has not been disclosed. A family member confirmed that Gumbel is “okay” but did not share further details about his health. Representatives for the veteran broadcaster have yet to issue a statement.

Gumbel rose to national prominence as cohost of NBC’s Today show, a role he held for 15 years alongside Jane Pauley and Katie Couric. He later became the host of HBO’s acclaimed series Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, earning widespread praise for his in-depth reporting.

The health scare follows the death of his older brother, Greg Gumbel, also a well-known sports broadcaster, who died last year at 78.

With more than four decades in television, Gumbel remains one of the most respected figures in broadcasting. Supporters across the country have shared messages wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
