Black Travel Nurse Turned CEO Develops First Ever Line of Scrubs Made With Organic Hemp Fabric

Nationwide — LaQuanza Dockery, an accomplished travel nurse with a master’s degree in leadership and management, is also the founder and CEO of SkynRN, the only scrub line in production that offers organic hemp fabric, the strongest natural fiber in the world. Some of the benefits of organic hemp include UV-ray protection, moisture wicking, anti-odor, anti-mold, and anti-pilling. It is also fade-resistant, and lasts three times longer than cotton.

One of the brilliant, more boastful details about this fabric is that it offers an all-natural antimicrobial barrier that never denigrates when washed This, however, is not the case with other scrub companies who spray their scrubs with silver ion. Organic hemp is far superior to any other anti-microbial due to all its benefits. What’s more, organic hemp is sustainable, so it doesn’t deplete any of our natural resources. It also uses 1/20th of the water it takes to produce cotton. Once harvested, it restores its nutrients back to the soil.

While working the front lines during the pandemic, LaQuanza observed the lack of protection our healthcare professionals had from the various microbes being transferred. The inconvenience of having to remove her scrubs at the door before hugging her loved ones became an all too real daily formality for her and that is when she knew a change needed to be made. She researched a natural organic fabric that offered antimicrobial benefits and organic hemp that was by far the best option. Hence, by combining organic hemp with recycled polyester, the product resulted in the most eco-friendly scrubs in existence. This organic hemp fabric maintains its integrity, as it is interwoven with recycled polyester, rayon, and spandex.

Additionally, as a healthcare professional whose wardrobe consists of a healthy dose of scrubs, she has firsthand knowledge of the necessary functionality and properties needed of scrubs, down to the fabric composition. Skyn RN offers the highest level of protection from any microbes, as organic hemp reduces the transference of microorganisms by destroying them on contact.

LaQuanza, who is an active member of the Eta Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she’s a member of the executive committee and holds multiple offices, comments, “I want to improve medical attire by providing high quality, durable, and natural antimicrobial resistant scrubs, to hardworking healthcare professionals. With all these redeeming qualities, I invite all medical professionals to join the Hempire and start loving the Skyn you’re in.”

She is also a member of the Silicon Valley National Pan-Hellenic Counsel, and she’s also quite the overachiever in education, specifically, in the field of nursing. As an RN, she has been a travel nurse for the last seven years and has had an extensive background in all the intensive care units: (CVICU, Medical/Surgical ICU, Trauma, Neuro, etc.) including management of several nursing units.
