Black Mom of 6 Survives Domestic Shooting, But Remains in Critical Condition

Nationwide — Jakeitha Price, a 45-year-old African American mother of 6 from DeKalb County, Georgia, survived a domestic shooting that left her critically wounded. Her partner, 43-year-old Calvin Morton, shot her multiple times before taking his own life. All six of Price’s children were inside the home during the attack.

Police arrived at the Saratoga Lake Condominiums and found Price inside her home with multiple gunshot wounds. Nearby, Morton was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, authorities are still investigating the case. They have not confirmed a motive or provided a full timeline of events. It also remains unclear whether the couple had any prior domestic violence reports.

Price’s family described the night as a “nightmare.” Her daughter Marenae Bailey recalled, “When I tried to go upstairs just a little bit, he came downstairs walking towards the door, saying, ‘Your mama is dead.’ All of us froze.” Another daughter, Kenyatta Bailey, echoed the trauma of the moment.

Relatives also shared concerns about Morton’s behavior before the shooting. Lavetta Bailey, a family member, said, “As I watched him, I was trying to convince myself he really loves her, but it was the ‘I love you to death’ type of love.”

Price remains in the hospital as she continues to recover. Doctors have described her survival as a miracle. Her family is now focused on caring for the six children and supporting her recovery. They have launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses and household needs. It has so far raised nearly $3,000.
