Black Mom From Florida Demands Answers After a Teacher Allegedly Hit Her 5-Year-Old Son

Nationwide — A mother of a 5-year-old African American boy from Miami Gardens, Florida, is seeking answers after her son came home from school with a deep cut on his eyebrow. His son’s teacher reportedly hit him close to his eye.

In the incident, which happened last month at Aspire Preparatory Academy, the mother said the teacher initially claimed the boy hurt himself with a pencil.

“This was a gash. This wasn’t just a hit. This wasn’t just a minor cut that you can put a Band-Aid. This was a deep cut that required him to get stitches,” she told WSVN.

However, as they headed to the emergency room for stitches, the boy revealed that the teacher hit him with a ruler.

“It’s scary because you send your child to school for eight hours of the day thinking that your child is in good hands,” said the mother.

Despite reaching out to the school for two weeks, the mother got no clear answers. She then reported the incident to Miami Gardens Police.

“He did admit he was playing around, and the teacher was yelling at him and frustrated because he was not listening,” she said.

While the boy is recovering physically after getting three stitches, the mother said he is traumatized by the incident. The mother, who has since pulled her son from the school, believed this should not have happened.

“No matter how frustrated you are, you shouldn’t take it out on that child. It could’ve been his eye; it was so close to his eye. Then he would’ve been blind for the rest of his life. Then what?” she said.

Meanwhile, the teacher is still employed at the school, and the school declined to comment on the incident.
