Black Employee From Georgia Retires After 65 Years Working at the Same Restaurant

Nationwide — Jimmie Scott, at the age of 85, officially retires after an impressive 65 years of dedicated service at S&S Cafeteria in Macon, Georgia, starting from a dishwasher to being promoted to dining room supervisor.

Scott, who was born in 1939 in Wrightsville, Georgia, has always dedicated his life to making people happy. For over 6 decades, Scott has been joyfully serving people while working at S&S Cafeteria, which opened in 1936.

“They took care of me and looked out for me for 65 years, and for that I am grateful,” he told 13WMAZ.

Throughout the years, Scott served at different locations, including Riverside in the 1970s and Bloomfield since the 1980s.

With seven children of his own, Scott found an extended family at S&S Cafeteria. His colleagues, such as General Manager Kevin Heide who worked alongside him for 15 years, expressed admiration for Scott’s ability to light up a room.

“This is his home,” Heide said. “This is his life. To amplify the service, I think that’s one of the biggest things. He’s always service-oriented. He treats them all with his heart.”

Despite retiring, Scott’s presence will still be felt at S&S Cafeteria. He even said, “I might take a little trip or a little vacation, but I’m coming back.”

Meanwhile, Scott’s long-standing service was honored during a celebration attended by friends, family, and colleagues. Mayor Lester Miller officially declared Feb. 21, 2024, as Jimmie Scott Day, marking the retirement celebration with pictures, speeches, and lots of cake.
