Nationwide — Daiyaan Henderson, a 21-year-old African American man wanted for an armed robbery, led police on a high-speed chase in Los Angeles, California, with his girlfriend and 2-month-old baby in the car. During the pursuit, he even live-streamed the dangerous drive.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department received reports of an armed robbery in Beverly Hills. Three men were involved, but only two were detained after abandoning their car. The third suspect, later identified as Henderson, managed to escape in a Kia sedan that he allegedly carjacked.
Henderson ignored police orders to stop. He sped through traffic, swerved between lanes, and even drove on the wrong side of the road, endangering many.
In the Instagram livestream, the baby’s mother can be heard in the background shouting, “Just pull over and put your hands up! My baby is in the car Daiyaan! Bro! Daiyaan! Just pull over! Let us out!”
The chase ended in Culver City when police surrounded the car. Henderson eventually surrendered, holding up his daughter to the officers. His girlfriend, who was also in the car, also surrendered.
“When a baby’s involved, it escalates everything and you have to be on top of your game, and I feel like everyone was at the top,” said sheriff’s deputy Tony Lomedico.
Henderson was arrested and his girlfriend was detained. The baby was quickly handed over to law enforcement and given medical attention on the scene.
“My concern was the baby,” said sheriff’s deputy Adriana Martinez. “She was crying so I just wanted to comfort her. My motherly insects kicked in and I was just trying to soothe her, stop her from crying. We ended up taking care of her.”
The baby was assessed at the scene, fed, and her diaper was changed before falling asleep. She was later reunited with her mother, who was released after police confirmed she was kidnapped.
Moreover, Henderson faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, carjacking, armed robbery, and possessing a firearm as a felon.
