8-Year-Old Black Girl Dies After Collapsing at School in Memphis

Nationwide — Chloe Williams, an 8-year-old African American girl from Memphis, Tennessee, recently died after collapsing at her school. The second-grader was playing on the playground when the incident occurred at Libertas School of Memphis on Monday.

Staff members immediately provided aid before paramedics transported her to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, Chloe could not be saved, according to WLBT.

The exact cause of her death remains unknown, though school officials believe it may have been due to an internal medical condition.

Chloe’s mother described her daughter as a “ray of sunshine everywhere she went.” She said she loved helping others and dreamed of becoming a nurse. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses, which has so far raised over $10,000.

While it’s rare for children to collapse at school, incidents like these do occur from time to time. Causes can range from medical conditions such as heart issues or dehydration to accidents or heat exhaustion. Schools are typically well-prepared to respond quickly with trained staff and emergency services, but such events are still deeply unsettling for families and communities.
