14th Annual Original Collard Greens Festival to Celebrate Culture, History & Traditional African-American Food

The event is free to attend, and will be held just 30 minutes outside of Atlanta.

Natiownide — The organizers of the 14th annual Original Collard Greens Cultural Festival have announced that this year’s interactive festival filled with amazing food, family and fun for all ages will be a daylong celebration on October 7, 2023 from 12 noon to 8pm. It will take place at The Promised Land located at 4540 Lee Road SW in the city of Snellville, Georgia.

All are invited to iImmerse in collard greens and culture while relaxing on 100 acres of historic land preserved by the Livsey family to nurture our bodies, minds and spirits. A place that transitioned from a slave-worked plantation to a place where descendants of those slaves could not only live and buy their own land, but survive and thrive, all are invited to experience their wellness and sustainability pavilions that will be scattered around the lake.

These pavilions will be promoting family unity and the importance of healthy eating and living while providing information on traditional and alternative healthcare approaches. Additionally, they’ll provide opportunities to attend select workshops in conjunction with the 8th Annual Black Sustainability Summit that will be taking place alongside the OCGCF with a focus on renewable energy, agriculture, waste management and more.

What makes this festival different? It is all in the greens! The founders comment, “We are talking about more than just your mother’s cooking. Be prepared to feast on everything from collard greens with hot water cornbread to collard green chips. And don’t forget to leave room for the piece de resistance, Collard Green Ice Cream!”

During the event, a king and queen winner will also be crowned at the Collard Greens Cook-Off Contest which will feature several innovative and healthy uses of collard greens!

Sponsors, vendors, entertainers, and volunteers are welcome.
